A Happy Update: Tober's Farm Life
Our day started with wonderful news about Tober, a previous PAAWS RI patient who found her forever home on a Massachusetts farm. She’s thriving in her new environment, and her favorite pastime is spending time with the resident pet pigs – a heartwarming success story that reminds us why we do this work.
Today, PAAWS RI helped cats from a variety of places across RI.
In Providence, while responding to a call about a mother cat and her kittens, we encountered Alvin, a handsome black and white tomcat. Though not our initial target, Alvin found his way into one of our traps. Being semi-tame, he received medical care and neuter surgery at our facility. A foster family has offered to evaluate his temperament over the next few months. And yes, we successfully trapped the mother cat and all her kittens and they’re now safe in foster care too.
Next, Sylvester was trapped in a different area of Providence. He is a tame cat, so he was posted on several lost cat websites, hoping an owner would come forward. No one claimed Sylvester, so he came to Paaws RI too. After a neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a blood test, he was microchipped and treated for fleas, ticks, and parasites. He is now ready for adoption into a new home! Yeah! One less homeless cat on the streets as winter approaches.
Marlo was another unexpected guest in our traps while we were trying to catch a mother cat with kittens. He had been living in Pawtucket. Marlo does not seem to be very socialized with people, so we gave him all the things that feral cats need: an examination, vaccinations, a microchip, flea/tick/parasite medication, a blood test, and neuter surgery. He will rest in foster care for a few weeks so we can evaluate if he is fearful but tame or feral.
And finally, we saw George and Maizie. George is a big feral tomcat; after getting all of his medical care today, he will recuperate for a few weeks in foster care. Then, he will be placed in a barn home. He is going to a barn that previously took feral cats. All of the cats are much loved by the family that lives there, so this will be an ideal new home for George.
Maizie, on the other hand, was trapped because the trapper thought she may have been pregnant. Turns out she is a totally tame cat that wasn’t pregnant but also wasn’t spayed. She got all of her medical care today, including a spay surgery. A foster home is waiting to take her in until she can find a permanent indoor home.
